Artists
Artists
New Zealand’s artists have emerged from the most unlikely environments, and their stories can be inspirational. The Art of War: New Zealand War Artists in the Field 1939-1945 is now available as is a biography of Austen Deans called Capturing Mountains. A forthcoming publication is on the Italian paintings of Bill Sutton.
New Zealand Fishing
New Zealand Fishing
New Zealand fishing is recognised around the world, yet there are many stories yet to be told. Swimming Upstream; the history of salmon farming in New Zealand has just been published and it joins two earlier publications: Hooked: the Story of the New Zealand fishing industry and Tides of Change: The Story of the New Zealand Federation of Commercial Fishermen, which also tell the story of the industry.
Memoirs
Memoirs
Memoirs are of special interest. Russian At Heart: Sonechka's Story, written by Olga and John Hawkes, is the story of Olga’s parents who escaped from Russia after the Revolution and went to live in Shanghai. Now 92 year-old Peter Jackson’s A Sacrifical Pawn joins this growing list of memoirs.
Novels
Novels
Wily Publications aim to publish between two and three novels a year. All will be historic fiction with a mix of the past and the present. The most recent publications are The Undone Years by Jenny Haworth (set largely in Europe in 1919) and Past Perfect by Karen Zelas, (set in Akaroa and Paris in the present and in the period around 1840).
New Authors
New Authors
Wily Publications helps new authors to have a chance to gain recognition through publication. This is done partly through publishing anthologies of new work. Particular emphasis is focused on areas of New Zealand and New Zealanders revealed through a variety of writings. Crest to Crest: an Anthology of Canterbury prose and poetry is the first of these.
Submissions
Submissions
Wily Publications Ltd is actively seeking submissions from both fiction and non-fiction writers. Our interest is in particular heritage and the arts or novels which bring alive the past. Please make contact with the publisher first to discuss your submission.
We ask for the first three chapters, a synopsis and a brief bio. These must be mailed to Wily Publications and should contain a stamped addressed envelop to return the submission if this is the final outcome. Emailed queries are welcome.
